What personal information I collect, why, and how I look after it.

Who I am
Identity Cultural Projects is the consulting practice of Iain Dawson, a sole trader based on Bundjalung Country in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. In this policy, “I”, “me” and “my” mean Iain Dawson trading as Identity Cultural Projects.
I handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What I collect
- When you contact me: your name, email address, the details you choose to share about your practice or project, and any deadline you mention.
- When you buy from me or pay a retainer or invoice: your name, email address, billing country or address, the product or service you bought, and any information you enter at checkout (such as the exhibition you plan to tour).
- When you become a client: the information needed to do the work, such as your CV, images, past writing, exhibition records, mailing lists you ask me to manage, and correspondence.
- When you browse the site: my web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.
What I don’t collect
I never see or store your card or bank details. Payments are processed by Stripe, which handles that information under its own security and privacy standards.
This site doesn’t use advertising trackers or marketing cookies.
Why I use it
- To reply to your enquiry and give you the information you asked for.
- To provide the services and products you buy, including delivering downloads, sending receipts and invoices, and managing retainer billing.
- To keep business, tax and accounting records as the law requires.
- To send you occasional updates about my services, but only if you’ve agreed. You can opt out at any time.
Who I share it with
I don’t sell or rent your personal information. I share it only with the services that help me run the business, and only as much as they need:
- Stripe, for payments, receipts and invoices.
- Netlify, which hosts this website and receives contact form submissions.
- Google, which supplies the fonts used on this site (your browser requests them from Google’s servers).
- My email provider and accountant, for correspondence and tax records.
Some of these providers store information outside Australia, including in the United States. I choose providers with recognised security and privacy practices.
When I work on your behalf, for example contacting galleries or funders, I share only the information you’ve agreed I can share.
How I keep it safe
I store information in password-protected accounts with two-factor authentication where available, and limit access to myself. I keep client records for as long as needed for the work and for legal and tax purposes (generally five years), then delete or destroy them securely.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it where I’m not required to keep it. Email hello@identityculturalprojects.com and I’ll respond within 30 days.
Questions or complaints
If you have a concern about how I’ve handled your information, please email me first and I’ll work to resolve it. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
