Studio Operations Retainer

The business side of your practice, handled

Most mid-career artists lose a day or more each week to writing, admin and chasing opportunities. The retainer hands that work to someone who has run galleries, art fairs and a regional institution, so your studio time goes back to the work.

How it starts

Three steps in

For practising artists with an exhibition history and regular sales who want a professional operation without hiring staff. I work with a maximum of six artists at a time.

  1. A 20-minute call

We see whether we're a fit.

  2. A two-hour onboarding

I gather your CV, images, past writing and goals.

  3. A 90-day plan

    Then the monthly rhythm begins.

“I make the work. Iain makes sure the right people see it. For the first time, I’m spending my time in the studio instead of chasing deadlines, and the opportunities are coming to me.”

Touring Exhibition Development

Exhibitions packaged so a gallery can say yes

Public galleries program two to three years ahead, and their committees judge a touring proposal on rigour, logistics and budget as much as on the art. I spent a decade programming national touring shows at SECCA, including the Art Gallery of NSW's Archibald Prize regional tour.

  • Curatorial concept, rationale and exhibition title
  • Full checklist with dimensions, media, values and condition notes
  • Floor plans and a 3D hang model that scales to different venues
  • Touring budget: hire fee, freight, crating, insurance and install
  • Education and public program outline
  • A gallery-ready proposal and direct approaches to suitable venues

From $4,500 for the proposal package. Tour coordination is quoted per tour. Venues pay hire fees and sales directly to you.

Six places. Three at the founding rate.
